North Reading is 300 years old!
This area was part of an original land grant in 1651, which then separated from Reading in 1713 when the North Parish inhabitants organized to call their own minister. We were established in 1713 by the Massachusetts General Court as the Second Precinct of Reading. The date holds so much significance it is one of the three years appearing on our town seal.
This was the first step in our becoming a separate town (which happened in 1853 – another year on our town seal).
We are increasing awareness of the long history of our area and encouraging North Reading residents, local non-profit organizations and businesses to creatively appreciate our town during the year long celebration in 2013.
